How to make in-house social networks relevant for staff – FT.com

We have come to rely on social media outside work to keep in touch with friends, share information and air our views. Yet internal social networks, such as Yammer, Jive and Socialtext, set up by organisations for staff, are often poorly used. In theory, networks such as these should encourage communication between staff and give them a stronger voice within the organisation, as well as improve collaboration and innovation. In practice, many companies end up using the networks to broadcast information to employees, rather than encourage staff to communicate across the organisation.
